Siren, our seductive Provençal-style GSM rosé, was cold fermented in stainless steel with limited exposure to oxygen, retaining the subtle nuances of the crisp fruit and high-tone esters. The nose bursts of strawberry, Bing cherry, orange blossom and clementine mandarin oranges with a beautiful palate of citrus and watermelon accompanied by a bright minerality, acidity and sophistication that will call you back for more. Pair this wine with fresh goat or feta cheeses to medium-bodied Spanish Manchego cheeses, shellfish, salmon, duck, pheasant, goose, pork, turkey, and pasta.
Varietal: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre & Petite Sirah
Year: 2015
Vineyard: Cass Vineyard, Paso Robles, California USA
Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Alcohol: 13.9%
VINEYARD NOTES
Colbert in San Miguel is one of the only vineyards to carry the varietal in the region. Carmenère always ripens late; mid-October to mid-November is the usual picking time. The leaves turn black in fall, which is very surprising and rare! 100% Carmenère.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Ahhh Carmenère! I never worked with it in France and always liked the Argentinian/Chilean style that was easy to achieve here, thanks to the growing conditions in 2013. The fruit came cleanly to the winery and right after crushing (less than 24 hours later) we inoculated the batch with classic Bordeaux yeast. After press we moved the wine to a Le Roi pungeon where it aged for 24 months. 76 cases produced.
TASTING NOTES
This varietal has a light and delicate perfume. The density of the wine is very interesting, a lot of weight, followed by long and smooth spice. It will go perfectly with a rack of lamb with rosemary or similar, the simpler the better!

Paicines received its designation as an AVA in 1982. Sitting on 42,882 acres, Paicines is a sub-appellation of the San Benito AVA. The soil of the region consists of a sandy loam. The temperature is akin to that of the high desert and often will see daily temperatures north of 100 degrees in the peak of the growing season. As the sun sets, the temperature will drop dramatically, sometimes by as much as 40 degrees, and the grapes will cool off. Without this swing in temperatures, the region would be too hot to produce vines. The diurnal cycle allows for a longer growing season, and the grapes will stay on the vine longer than in neighboring AVAs. The region is known for producing Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah.

"Dark red magenta in the glass, it's dark and yet bright. The purity on the nose is impressive, with ripeness perfected and the oak balanced. There's a sweet core of fruit on the palate, chock full of dark red cherries, cassis, wet tobacco and sweet earth. 60+second finish that has nice tannic grip without being 'drying'. Impressively rich in all the right places, the wine continues to evolve with air, telling me that a two-hour decant is probably wise. Drink now and for 7-8 more years for optimum drinking." Chris at Calwine. (Dec.2014)

Aged for 18 months – 1/3 in brand new barrels, 1/3 in 2 to 5 year old barrels, 1/3 neutral barrels. Varietals comprise Cabernet Sauvignon from Starr Ranch, Malbec from Lockwood Valley Vineyards, dry farm Merlot from Julie’s Vineyard and Syrah from Hearthstone Vineyard.
2012 was amazing by any standard. All of this fruit came to full maturity with good color and acids, the natural hot springs underneath Julie’s Vineyard provided all the water and nutrients that the grapes needed to survive.
Nothing fancy here, minimum grape handling and destemming did the trick.
Typical Bordeaux style elegant and plummy with a twist of spice, the merlot brings a traditional velvety texture to the blend and cab the tannins.

Read MoreClarksburg received its designation as an AVA in 1984. Sitting on 64,640 acres, Clarksburg is located across Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo Counties. The soils of Clarksburg are dense clay and loam. With influences from both the San Francisco Bay to the west, and the Sacramento River, the climate of Clarksburg is cooler and more moderate than most of Sacramento. The region features heavy sun exposure with cooling effects from the river allowing for a longer growing season than most central valley AVAs. The longer growing season allows the fruit to develop a well-balanced acidity and tannin structure. The region is known for Petite Sirah and Chenin Blanc.
The 2011 Sabina Vineyards Oregon Pinot Noir opens with hints of raspberry and rose petal aromas mixed with flavors of cranberry, leather and green tea in the mouth. San Lucas received its designation as an AVA in 1987. Sitting on 33,920 acres, the region is a sub-appellation of Monterey. The soil of the region is shale and loam, situated on benches and terraces between 200 and 1,200 feet. San Lucas has one of the largest diurnal temperature swings in all of California, with thirty-degree fluctuations being common. The change in temperature makes for a longer growing season and gives the fruit extra time on the vine to ripen and balance its acidity. San Lucas is known for producing excellent Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Our 'Rio Vista Vineyard' Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, begins on the nose with a mouth watering sensation of strawberry/rhubarb pie and delicious spices baked into the mix. Right behind the pie are some earthy elements and touches of pepper, tobacco, smoked meats and a hint of orange peel. This is duck wine - or perhaps a comfort food roast beef or fresh Alaskan salmon grilled over a wood plank with light herbs. It evolves so much in the glass, maybe a bite of all three! It is at once sultry and at the same time playful, so perhaps pair this with some Madeleine Peyroux and a few of your more quixotic friends!
The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site. In Santa Barbara County, there is a special piece of land nestled in a canyon amongst the Santa Rita Hills that is chalk full of…well…chalk (!). It gently ambles to the ocean…it is foggy, cool, sometimes brooding…and perfect for Pinot Noir.
The Rio Vista Vineyard is a star within the highly acclaimed Santa Rita Hills appellation. Betweenthe hillside plantings on chalky soils and the long, cool growing season, the wines off this vineyard are noted for their depth of color and complexity of fruit. Balance is a word that immediately comes to mind – worthy of drinking tonight or aging for decades.
Our Humanitas 2012 ‘Rio Vista Vineyard’ Pinot Noir begins on the nose with a mouth watering sensation of strawberry/rhubarb pie and delicious spices baked into the mix. Right behind the pie are some earthy elements and touches of pepper, tobacco, smoked meats and a hint of orange peel.
In the mouth, the fruit is very bright up front and the texture is thick in the middle and finish. A little flint & stone pops in followed by cigar wrapper, leather & black pepper. This is a complex wine, yet very easy to drink. It changes a lot in the glass…over and over again. This is duck wine – or perhaps a comfort food roast beef or fresh Alaskan salmon grilled over a wood plank with light herbs. It evolves so much in the glass, maybe a bite of all three! The Potter Valley AVA is located in northern Mendocino County, California around on town of Potter Valley.
