2012 Oak Cliff Cellars La Belle Endormie (Sleeping Beauty) Bordeaux Blend - Wine of the Day

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars La Belle Endormie Bordeaux Blend

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars La Belle Endormie' (Sleeping Beauty) Bordeaux Blend

$55

This traditional Bordeaux-style red blend of CabernetMerlot, andCabernet Franc is still a young, but already complex wine: raspberry, cranberry, a little blackberry, minerals, pencil shavings, vanilla, coffee and toffee with great structure, full bodied, very long finish. But like most Bordeaux style wines, awaken it gently from its sleep and decant a little while before serving.

These classic Bordeaux grapes come from the Wild Diamond Vineyard in southern Lake County and have been co-fermented in making this premium wine. The Wild Diamond Vineyard is in southern Lake County (just north of Napa Valley) at an elevation of 2,200 ft., meaning warmer, longer growing days with cool Pacific breezes at night and an overall shorter growing season resulting in fully ripe fruit. The red, volcanic soil of this vineyard contributes both to the depth of color and rich flavor profile of grapes from the Wild Diamond Vineyard.

2012 Nobelle Wines Grenache Syrah - Wine of the Day

2012 Nobelle Wines Grenache Syrah

2012 Nobelle Wines Grenache Syrah

$28

Impressive coffee bean scent when you open the bottle, follow by toasted bread and nutty aromas. The mouthfeel is soft and velvety, but the tannins are strong. Thanks to the syrah, a long acidity from the grenache makes the finish linger. A solid red with at least a 10 year aging potential.

Kiler Canyon is home to some of the best syrah in the county; it shares a fence line with Terry Hoag Cellars a well-established winery and a big syrah house as well. Conditions were ideal! A mild leaf thinning had to be done in August to get full sun exposure and good ventilation against potential mildew.

2013 Calstar Sonoma Coast Chardonnay - Wine of the Day

2013 Calstar Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

2013 Calstar Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

$28.50

Indinoli Vineyard is located on Vine Hill School Road in the Santa Rosa Laguna region, known for it's cooler temperatures, foggy mornings and sandy soils. It is planted to a mix of Old Wente, Robert Young, and #4, #8 and #809 Clones of Chardonnay.  This clonal variation takes advantage of the varied aspects of the vineyard and adds great complexity to the wines from this site.

Straw green yellow in the glass, this rich Chardonnay embodies what was a near-perfect vintage for coastal Sonoma Coast vineyard sites. The nose is focused and precise – green apple, Meyer lemon, kiwi and kefir lime. Supporting notes of toasted shortbread, vanilla and cut grass round out the aromas. On the palette, clean citrus zest acidity balances out the full body and rich fruitiness. The barrel fermentation lends to a creamy, luxurious texture and a hint of sweet baking spices. The finish lingers with wet rock, pineapple and key lime.

2015 Petrified Forest Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc

$23

Pale yellow with a tinge of green, gooseberry , melon rind on the nose with a touch of Serrano pepper. The palate is lively with vibrant acidity and finishes seamlessly with flavors of kiwi and lime zest

The 2014 Vintage was warm and sunny from April on. That compounded with almost no rain contributed to early ripening and concentrated fruit. Reds will benefit from some bottle age and cellar well, this white wine is drinking beautifully right now.

The grapes were picked at dawn and whole cluster pressed immediately. The newly pressed juice was cold settled in tank overnight then racked off heavy solids to it’s fermentation tank and a small amount of neutral French oak barrels. The tank was inoculated with a proprietary yeast blend while the barrels were left to ferment with indigenous yeast. After a slow, cool fermentation the new wine was racked off the lees and bottled as early as possible to preserve it’s vibrant character.

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars Firebrick Zinfandel - Wine of the Day

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars Firebrick Zinfandel

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars Firebrick Zinfandel

$35

Exhibiting exceptional clarity and brilliance in the glass, this wine is effusive with a seductive nose of strawberries and cinnamon followed by layers of strawberries, raspberries with peppery notes leading to a long finish.

Firebrick Hill Vineyard sits 1000 - 1200’ above sea level in northeastern Mendocino County just north of Lake Mendocino, on the Ricetti bench, an alluvial terrace. Vineyards in the Redwood Valley AVA sit about 200 feet higher in elevation than those along the Russian River, further downstream in Ukiah and Hopland . The climate of this upland valley is slightly cooler than vineyards to the south, furthered by a gap in the coastal ridge which allows cool Pacific air currents to penetrate. These conditions result in a longer growing season and a gradual ripening of fruit that makes Redwood Valley wines refined, with more acidity and deeper color. The notable red soil of the area also provides depth of color and flavor to the wines. The result is layered, nuanced wines with great structure and bright fruit, like the peppery, spicy Zinfandels for which the Redwood Valley is known.

The grapes for this wine come from the Roserock Vineyard which is perched on a ridge top towards the southern end of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, which is located within the Willamette Valley, home to many of Oregon’s finest Pinot Noir vineyards. In 2011, a warm and dry harvest period gave way to cooler than expected conditions in late September and early October. Fortunately, the fruit was at or near its ripening plateau. A final heat spike at harvest dehydrated many clusters, reducing yields and concentrating flavors.

2014 Cal Star Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County

$20

Pale straw gold in color, the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is the sum of three distinct parts.  At first, bold citrus and tropical notes dominate: Meyer lemon, grapefruit, lychee, honeydew melon, pineapple and kiwi.  Secondary notes balance the fruit with lemongrass, clover and a hint of sweet ginger.  Tertiary flavors of wet rock, shortbread and vanilla round the palette and draw the juicy tropical notes through the finish.  The bright acidity brings focus to the lush citrus and ripe fruit notes while finishing with bright key lime and stony minerality.

With a long, cool growing season, the cool climate of the Russian River Valley keeps wines crisp while allowing the natural character of the climate to shine through.   The picturesque Crinella Marino vineyard is located in one of the warmer areas of the Russian River Valley and experiences less rain and weather challenges than many other sites in the region.

The grapes offer a combination of a sophisticated Sancerre of the Loire Valley and the grassier New Zealand selections.  This is a California wine for a Sauvignon Blanc enthusiast.

Every once in awhile an unparalleled vineyard site is quite literally stumbled upon. Gina and Steve Viets purchased their Sonoma home designed to give their children more room to roam and to escape foggy San Francisco. Little did they know, but their passion for seeking the perfect bottle of Cabernet, along with their interest in farming, was about to converge. While exploring the property and it’s history the Family discovered that the land was once a vineyard in the late 1800’s, they began seeing their hillside in a whole new light, inspiring them to establish V. Vineyards dedicated to single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley - Wine Region of the Day

Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley

Located near a series of ancient lakes near the banks of the Columbia River, the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley is an unusual region.  The lakes were formed when Lake Missoula, a prehistoric lake at the base of Cordilleran ice sheet burst through an ice dam creating a deluge that tore through the Columbia Valley.  Much of the rock was eroded creating benches on the banks of the  river while eddies  helped carve the rock deeper to create the Ancient Lakes and steep canyons called coulees in the area throughout.  The viticultural area is located between Beezely and Frenchmen Hills bounded on the west by the Columbia River and to the west by a range line to the east.  The soils and rocks in this area were washed away leaving hardpan and loess over basalt.

The climate is considered cold semi-arid meaning that it has warm to hot summers with cold winters.  The area is dry because it is located in the rain shadow of both the Olympic and Cascade Ranges and receives less than eight inches of rain per year.

Created in 2012, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley is known for it's white wines.  In particular, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris which are prized for their bright acidity and minerality.

2013 Ryan Cochrane Wines Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley "Solomon Hills Vineyard" - Wine of the Day

2013 Ryan Cochrane Wines Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley "Solomon Hills Vineyard"

2013 Ryan Cochrane Wines Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley "Solomon Hills Vineyard"

$43

Ryan Cochrane has really fallen in love with this vineyard. There’s this unmistakeable characteristic about wines made from this site that is uniquely Solomon Hills. In 2013, he added an extra clone to the mix which really gave this wine an extra level of complexity and balance. And it also made it a little addictive too. As always, the nose explodes right out of the glass, unleashing aromas of rich red berries, black licorice, sandalwood, fresh flowers, black tea with lemon and mushroomy earth. On the palette, I’m getting garden strawberries, bing cherries, spice cake, orange marmalade, tea and underlying wet forest floor. The wine has a beautiful light garnet color, which alludes to its medium-light bodied character and perfect balance. The wine starts off with a bright and showy mouthfeel, but morphs into something much more complex as an effervescent acidity takes over with a nice snap at the end. This wine lingers on the tongue 4 evah!
