San Benito received its designation as an AVA in 1987. Sitting on over 45,000 acres, San Benito is a large AVA and contains Cienega ValleyLime Kiln Valley, and Paicines as sub-appellations. The region has coastal breezes that flow through the Santa Lucia Mountains and the Gabilan Mountain Range. The region is known for ZinfandelSyrah,Chardonnay, and Merlot.
