Inwood Valley

Map of the Inwood Valley Viticultural Area

The Inwood Valley is located in Shasta County in Northern California just north of the town of Shingletown.  The area is 28,441 acres with approximately 62.5 acres under vine in five commercial vineyards.  The soils of the region are unique in that they contain volcanic flow and pyroclastic deposits from two volcanos, Mountain Shasta and its satellite cone, Shastina which are considered potentially active and Lassen Peak which last erupted in 1915.  Temperatures in the are indicated Mediterranean climates that allow for growing both Bordeaux and Rhone varietals.  Precipitation is plentiful with the majority falling during the cool season and the geology of the region allows for ground water to be readily accessed.
